09/10/2010 - Increase in lorry toll rates given the chop
The increase in lorry toll rates for older lorries – for instance vehicles of emission class Euro III – projected for 1 January 2011 has been given the chop by the German coalition government between the Christian Democrats and the Liberals. Actually, the previous government had planned a toll adjustment of 2 cents per kilometre for older lorries. The Federal Minister of Transport, Peter Ramsauer (Christian Social Union, CSU), on the other hand, even announced that the current toll rates would be adhered to even beyond 2011. In addition to forwarding agents, the entire lorry industry would benefit, Ramsauer emphasised. The Bundestag still has to give its consent to the decision of the cabinet.
Environmental compatibility and climate protection have been important principles of Time Shuttle for a long time. This is why only vehicles of the latest generation are used at Time Shuttle. “Even if an increase in the toll would not have affected us due to the lorries we use, we are happy about being guaranteed stable toll rates,” says Imad El mouatacim, Manager Logistics Administration at Time Shuttle. “It is a pity, though, that the consequences of this moratorium will be borne by the environment, and forwarding agents acting in a less sustainable way will be rewarded.”
